“In 1975, I attended New Asia College, Chinese University of Hong Kong to study Mandarin as a college junior. My experience was amazing. I roomed with three Chinese students who were my team mates on the University swim team. One was from Guangzhou and his brothers were members of the Red Guard. Another was the son of a Hong Kong Government civil servant. There I found my lifelong passion for studying the People’s Liberation Army which I teach about today at Georgetown and Texas A&M.”
