Travel Information

Who will pay for my expenses?

Attendees are responsible for their own reservations and travel expenses, unless otherwise indicated below.

Visas

American citizens are required to have a valid visa or Chinese-issued travel permit to travel to mainland China. If you or anyone in your group does not have a valid visa, start the application process for a Tourist Visa (“L”) soon. A precondition of application is to have a passport that does not expire within the coming six months. Expect the visa application to take several weeks. For Changsha:

  • Join the Yale-China group booking at Empark Grand Hotel.

  • Special rate of RMB 500 per night for Deluke king bed, river view, buffet breakfast included. To be paid at the hotel.

  • Yali High School and Xiangya Hospital are offering to pay for the hotel accommodations for as many guests as possible. Former Yali Fellows (“Bachelors” or “ELIs”) and Xiangya affiliates are eligible. Please notify Yale-China through the “Yes, I’m coming!” Registration Form if you might be eligible.

For Xiuning

  • All participants in the Yale-China delegation are offered free accommodation (including buffet breakfast) at the Ramada by Wyndham Huangshan, Xiuning. These rooms are courtesy of Xiuning Middle School and the local government.

  • If you prefer to directly book your own accommodation (to self-pay) at the same hotel, please indicate on the “Yes, I’m coming!” Registration Form. It is easy to book through Trip.com.

For Hong Kong

  • All Hong Kong accommodation choices are self-pay.

  • To stay Hong Kong Island, Kowloon or Shatin? For those who want to be near CUHK, we have negotiated special rates at two hotels near CUHK (30 minutes on MTR train from Central) and some limited on-campus options.

    1. Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin. Standard Twin Room (2 guests) is HK$1,378/night (breakfast not included). Located next to CUHK campus train station. Note: room rates are not guaranteed until booking is made.

    2. Regal Riverside Hotel. Superior Twin Room (2 guests) is HK$881/night (breakfast not included).  Minibus and taxi access to CUHK, to MTR stations, and express bus service directly to airport. Note: room rates are not guaranteed until booking is made.

    3. We have reserved a limited supply of basic guest rooms in Friendship Lodge at New Asia College – in the building that Yale-China helped build and where decades of Fellows have lived. These rooms are at the top of the CUHK mountain and require independently navigating campus buses. Better for people familiar with campus. Prices are around HKD 450 per person night. First come, first served.

I have more questions. Who should I ask?
