Yale University — New Asia College (YUNA) Exchange
The YUNA Exchange matches eight students from Yale University with eight students from New Asia College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong for a unique six-month, themed, academic and cultural exchange program. Yale participants plan a two-week visit in New Haven, travel to Hong Kong over Yale’s spring break, and conduct research on the theme. Many students cite YUNA as one of the most important experiences of their time at Yale, both for the personal growth it allows and for the friendships that are formed through the program.

Applications for 2016-2017 YUNA Exchange available in September
The theme for the 2015-2016 YUNA Exchange was National Identity and Citizenship.
This January, the Hong Kong students arrived to New Haven, bundled in new ski coats. YUNA commenced with a seasonal turkey dinner, and proceeded to open lectures and symposiums across Yale. The delegation traveled NYC and Boston to study urban history and monuments of immigration. Come March, the New Haven students flew to Hong Kong sporting T-shirts. The trip highlighted munching street snacks and widely exploring the metropolitan hubbub of the multilingual islands. The final symposium took place overlooking the glass waters of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The delegation will be in charge of nominating the theme of next year's exchange trip.
Yale-China will begin accepting applications for the 2016-2017 YUNA Exchange in fall 2016. Check back for updates! more>
Info sessions will be held in September; check back here for times and locations. You can also view our Virtual Info Session.
YUNA is one of the programs that best embody the six decade long partnership between the Yale-China Association and New Asia College. For more than twenty years, the program has brought some of the brightest and most curious students from Yale and from New Asia together to explore shared issues in very different cultures. Recent themes have included Sovereignty and Society; Migration and Cultural Integration; Innovation, Creativity, and Social Change; Capitalism and Society; and Social Justice.
From the Field
"Participating in the YUNA program has been one of the most formative experiences of my Yale career. When I first heard about the program, I likened it to the other spring break opportunities circulating Yale’s campus—exciting and well-intentioned, but ultimately nothing more than a glorified tourist trip. From the get-go, YUNA defied my pre-conceived notions, allowing me the opportunity to holistically engage with cultural customs beyond my comfort zone. YUNA’s unique reciprocity—having the HK-ers come to Yale and then us to Hong Kong—made the program much more substantial than a simple voluntourism trip." – Christofer Rodelo, YUNA 2014 more >
