Michael Sloan
Paintings of Hong Kong Street Markets

Yale-China's new exhibit features paintings by nationally recognized illustrator and New Haven resident Michael Sloan. Michael depicts sixteen portraits, scenes of street markets, and social crossroads within the Hong Kong metropolis.

See a video of Yale-China interviewing Michael about this exhibit.

Michael returns to New Haven after a year-long residence in Hong Kong. A seasoned outdoor sketch artist, Michael discovers commonplace nooks and overlooked settings as noteworthy subjects and portrays them in his signature style of selective coloring, detailed surroundings, and artistic perspective. Through this exhibit, Michael explores the livelihoods and social conditions in the local street markets of one of the world’s great social and economic intersections.

If you would like to view this exhibit, please contact Annie Lin.

The exhibit is open and free to the public between the hours of 2:00-5:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. We highly recommend calling prior to your visit as we host many events in the Bierwirth Room.
