Health

Since 1906, Yale-China Health Programs have been connecting health professionals in China with health professionals at Yale to build knowledge and capacity through long-lasting individual and institutional relationships. Whether it is in our long-running health professional exchanges (Chia Fellowship Program); the Residency Training Development Program or other exchanges we've helped to facilitate, Yale-China continues to bring professionals from Changsha, Kunming, and Yale together to conduct health-related programs that are impacting hundreds of participants.

Western Hunan Health Initiative to Improve Services at the Local Level (WHISL)

The Western Hunan Initiative aims to catalyze development of a new model for healthcare delivery in Western Hunan utilizing existing resources but deploying them more effectively, with potential to be disseminated nationally and to have major impact. The initial areas of focus for the “WHISL Coalition of Partners” are: A) to define Scope of Practice at Township and Village Level; B) to train practitioners to operate within that Scope; C) to improve teamwork and communication among these levels; D) to develop health informatics systems to facilitate communication and manage and analyze data to facilitate performance improvement; E) work to develop policies that institutionalize change and create sustainable financial incentives through poverty alleviation.

Residency Training

Since 2007, Yale-China has been working with Yale School of Medicine on a competency-based residency training program at Xiangya-affiliated hospitals. Xiangya was recently named the Model Residency Training Program for all of Hunan Province.

Chia @ Yale Fellows

The Chia Fellowship Program at Yale aims to further the careers of Chinese women working in the health professions, to improve community health outcomes in Hunan and Yunnan provinces, especially among disadvantaged populations, and to create connections between Yale University faculty and China-based faculty.
