The Yale-China Association will celebrate its 113th anniversary and the Year of the Horse with the Cheongsam Ball on February 7, 2014 at the New Haven Lawn Club.
“What an evening! A great mix of many generations of Yale Alumni and guests, super food, a great bar, loads of fascinating information on Yale-China’s current work, and fabulous music and dance opportunities. The auction was marvelous and raised lots of money for one of Yale’s premier outreach organizations,” remarked Johnson Flucker, a Yale alumnus from the Class of 1980 and participant of a Yale-China service program in China.
The Cheongsam Ball resembles a 1930s Shanghai jazz evening, featuring The Half-Tones, an all-illustrator jazz band. Highlights of the evening include a cocktail reception, seated dinner, open bar, live auction hosted by NPR’s Tom Ashbrook, and a showcase of Yale-China's work. On special view will be 花樣年華 The Age of Blossoms: a 60-year collection of Mary C. Hu’s cheongsams. “Not only are we fortunate to be able to exhibit ten exquisite cheongsam gowns worn by the late Mary C. Hu, we are also excited to share a story about an incredible woman who spent the first part of her life in Chengdu and the second half in New Jersey,” stated Nancy Yao Maasbach, executive director of Yale-China.
Yale-China’s Cheongsam Ball is open to all interested parties; tickets and sponsorships may be purchased at yalechina.whindo.com.
