Prospective Fellows
Law Fellows, who teach for one academic year at a law school in China, teach courses on aspects of international or U.S. legal practice and sometimes co-teach one or more law clinics with local faculty. The clinical education is, for most Fellows, the most rewarding aspect of the program, allowing Fellows to see the Chinese legal process first-hand, and helping to inspire in law students an interest in public interest law. Many former Yale-China Law Fellows have moved to positions that continue to be engaged in U.S. -China legal exchange.
Qualifications
Yale-China looks for candidates who will contribute to not only the Chinese law schools in which they teach, but also to the program itself. This requires self-reliance, an entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm, and a willingness to collaborate. We also look for candidates who are eager to study and learn from China and their Chinese colleagues, as the program is as much a learning experience as it is a teaching experience. Other requirements include:
A J.D. from an accredited U.S. institution;
Two or more years' experience in legal practice or teaching law;
Chinese language ability or strong aptitude for learning Chinese and adapting to Chinese culture; and
Experience or interest in clinical legal education and/or public interest law.
Preference is given to candidates who have strong Chinese-language skills and who have clinical or public interest law experience.
We do not have any fellowship positions available at this time. If you would like to be notified should a position become available, please send your contact information to Yale-China Staff Assistant
Michelle Averitt.
