Hunan University Law School (HULS) has 57 full time faculty members and about 600 undergraduate students and 900 graduate students. It offers a broad range of legal courses, and is particularly strong in the fields of economic and civil law. Hunan Lawyer Educational College, Hunan Intellectual Training Base, and Hunan Judicial Appraisal Center are also affiliated with HULS.
The HULS Legal Clinic was established in 2007, and now offers two clinic courses to HULS students: Civil Law Clinic and Criminal Law Clinic. Since its inception, the clinic has helped 13 clients. There are 11 professors teaching at the clinics, including the Yale-China Law Fellow.
The clinic has two parallel structures: a large lecture class for all 30 students and small group meetings where faculty advisers and students can discuss their cases. The lecture class meets once a week. All students attend the lecture class where the lectures cover important lawyering topics, such as professional ethics, interviewing skills, and case theory. The lectures are co-taught with a different combination of professors depending on the subject matter.
